About RRB NTPC

The Railway Recruitment Boards recruit for Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) through centralised employment notices. Two notices were current when this guide was checked. CEN 07/2025 (Under Graduate), the later of the two, opened on 28 October 2025 for Commercial cum Ticket Clerk (Pay Level 3, initial pay ₹21,700, medical B2, 2,424 posts), Accounts Clerk cum Typist (Level 2, ₹19,900, C2, 394), Junior Clerk cum Typist (Level 2, ₹19,900, C2, 163) and Trains Clerk (Level 2, ₹19,900, A3, 77): 3,058 posts in all, age 18 to 30 years on 1 January 2026. CEN 06/2025 (Graduate) opened on 21 October 2025 for Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor and Station Master (Level 6, ₹35,400), Goods Train Manager, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist and Senior Clerk cum Typist (Level 5, ₹29,200), and Traffic Assistant (Level 4, ₹25,500): 5,810 posts, age 18 to 33 years on 1 January 2026. Vacancies are provisional.

The 1st Stage CBT is common to every post in a notice. It is one sitting of 100 objective questions, each of 1 mark, in 90 minutes (120 minutes for a candidate allowed a scribe): General Awareness 40, Mathematics 30, and General Intelligence and Reasoning 30. The notice says that split is only indicative. A wrong answer costs one-third of a mark. There is one duration for the paper, not a separate clock for each subject. The normalised score shortlists candidates for the 2nd Stage CBT, up to 15 times the community-wise vacancies, and the RRBs may change that multiple.

The 2nd Stage CBT is 120 questions of 1 mark in 90 minutes (120 minutes with a scribe): General Awareness 50, Mathematics 35, and General Intelligence and Reasoning 35, again with one-third negative marking and an indicative split. To be eligible, a candidate needs 40% (UR and EWS), 30% (OBC-NCL and SC) or 25% (ST); those floors may be relaxed by 2 marks for PwBD candidates if reserved posts would otherwise go unfilled. Marks from different shifts are normalised.

After the 2nd Stage CBT, some posts have a qualifying skill test. In CEN 07/2025, Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Clerk cum Typist take a Computer Based Typing Skill Test (30 words per minute in English or 25 in Hindi). In CEN 06/2025, Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist take the same typing test, and Station Master and Traffic Assistant take a Computer Based Aptitude Test in English and Hindi, with no negative marking, needing a T-score of 42 in each battery; their merit is 70% of the 2nd Stage CBT and 30% of the aptitude test. Document verification and a medical examination follow. Typing and aptitude marks are not added for posts that do not have those tests.
